About Me: Engineering Financial Freedom
After a combined 65 years of municipal and federal government service, my wife and I are on a path toward the financial freedom we spent decades building.
We didn’t get there through extraordinary incomes, stock options, business exits, or financial windfalls.
We built it through something much less exciting—but far more repeatable:
Discipline. Consistency. Patience. And a long-term mindset.
We didn’t get lucky.
We built a system, trusted the process through good markets and bad, and allowed time and compounding to do what they do best.
Our Journey
Our financial journey looks similar to that of many hardworking Americans.
We lived below our means. We invested consistently. We avoided unnecessary debt. We made intentional decisions and stayed committed even when life became complicated.
Like everyone else, we experienced market downturns, career challenges, unexpected expenses, and moments of uncertainty.
Those experiences reinforced one important lesson:
Lasting wealth is rarely created by one perfect decision. It is built through hundreds of small, disciplined decisions made over decades.
Today, we are beginning to enjoy the financial freedom we spent a lifetime creating, and this blog exists to share the lessons we learned along the way.
Why I Created This Blog
I created this site to help fellow Gen Xers cut through the endless financial noise.
Every day, we are surrounded by headlines, market predictions, get-rich-quick promises, and conflicting advice about money.
My goal is simple:
To share practical lessons from a real financial journey—not theory, hype, or product sales.
I am not a financial advisor selling products or promoting the latest investment trend.
I am simply sharing what has worked for us, what has challenged us, and the lessons we have learned through decades of experience.
Here you’ll find discussions about:
– Long-term investing and building wealth
– Retirement planning and income strategies
– Taxes and healthcare considerations
– Credit, mortgages, and cash flow
– Insurance and risk management
– Travel, lifestyle, and enjoying the retirement you worked to build
– The major financial decisions that shape the second half of life
Why I Remain Semi-Anonymous
Because I share specific details about our financial journey—including investments, retirement planning, and major financial decisions—I have chosen to remain semi-anonymous.
Protecting my family’s privacy is more important than personal recognition.
Everything I share is based on our real experiences. I won’t reveal every personal detail, but I also won’t hide behind generic financial theory.
I hope you judge this blog by the quality of the ideas, the lessons shared, and the value it provides—not by the name behind it.
